On Jimmy’s Birthday

I watch/listen to this video every year on Jimmy Page’s birthday (Jan 9th), my celebration of the sound of his guitar, which probably literally held me together in my trouble-minded youth.

Sitting on the floor of my bedroom, listening to this song, was the first time I ever remember thinking about how I wanted to feel emotions as deeply as that guitar was expressing sound. It created a deep ache in me, a desire to live as epic a life as possible, to not be afraid to risk heartache, and so to potentially gain everything.

And to be willing to cry as beautifully as that guitar.
